Old World Swords
Smith & Partners, LLc. is proud to introduce a series of handcrafted 18th century European Hunting Swords. Swords of Medieval Europe (Approximately 500 to 1,500 AD) evolved from Celtic swords, which in turn arose from the tradition of straight, double edged swords which began as early as 1,500 BC. At the beginning of the 18th century, swords evolved into blades just under 3' in length and were designed to cut and stab, having thin rounded tips and secured to a thick horn, wood or metal handle.English horseman would hunt with spears and carry a sword affixed to a saddle or slung from their backs. If the spear wounded an animal, it would be finished off with their hunting swords. As the Europeans conquered the frontiers of New Spain ( what is now Northern Mexico and Southwest United States) soldiers, bandits, traveling fur traders and cattlemen often used these swords as a weapon or to defend themselves from the many roaming bandits that preyed on the unsuspecting. These swords were also used for hunting and a basic survival tool.

Custom made cowhide sheath included with all sword purchases.
